About Me
Melissa Yu began her career in psychology, completing qualifications in psychology, counselling, and mental health before working with the Royal Children’s Hospital and McAuley Community Services for Women.
Her own experiences with depression, suicidal thoughts, and the loss of her partner to suicide have shaped her into a powerful advocate for suicide prevention in Australia. For nearly a decade, she has worked to embed lived experience across the community sector, ensuring the voices of those most affected are heard and valued.
From grassroots talks to international conferences, Melissa shares her story with honesty and compassion, leaving audiences inspired by her resilience, connection, and belief in the power of lived experience.
Mel’s Desire to Help
Melissa’s passion for elevating lived experience is evident in her work with leading suicide prevention organisations. Her impact has been recognised through nominations for Young Australian of the Year (2019) and Channel 7’s Young Achievers Award for Social Impact.
Beyond her advocacy, Melissa is an entrepreneur and community leader. She founded MCO Events, supporting businesses with end-to-end event delivery; launched Ego Expo, Australia’s largest streetwear and urban culture expo; created Paddle Across the Bay, the country’s biggest stand-up paddleboarding charity fundraiser; and hosts her podcast, The Authentic Me, where she interviews influential voices.
Described as having “wisdom beyond her years,” Melissa brings the same authenticity to her coaching and mentoring. Through one-on-one programs, group masterclasses, and high-level mastermind retreats, she shares her struggles, successes, and lessons to inspire lasting transformation.
